Founder Feature: Faheem & Karen at Seen

the TLDR on Faheem: Faheem started a social shopping app, a beverage company, and a platform for creator-led brands. He was also at McKinsey where he helped design the inbuilt apps on the Samsung Galaxy, grow revenue at Tumblr, and drive subscriptions at The New Yorker magazine. He’s from South Africa, lives in the East Village, and is proud of his top 1% ranking on Citibike and top 0.5% ranking on Beli. He is embarrassed of his run times on Strava. He co-founded Seen with Karen Gillan (actress from Guardians of the Galaxy, Dr Who, Jumanji).

What is Seen? Seen is an app which videos your friends when they view your messages. People are sharing up to 15 TikToks today via iMessage, and users love seeing their friends’ reactions versus just getting a “Like” back. It’s fun, personal, and easy – and messages on Seen often lead to a thread of fun responses on the group chat. Seen is making social media social again. Investors include the founders of Twitter and Twitch (amongst others).

Fundraising advice for founders? Obsess over your pitch. Keep refining it. Video yourself. Get feedback. Be organized.

Advice for VCs investing in founders? Tell founders exactly what you think. We really value candid and direct feedback - as well as the opportunity to respond to it.
